Question
There is a glass of orange juice with an ice cube floating in it, partially submerged. When the ice cube melts, will the orange juice remain at the same level? [This was a question on my midterm I just took and I was wondering if I got it correct. I answered it would remain at the same level because the amount of orange juice displaced * gravity = buoyant force. The buoyant force = mass of ice*gravity. So the mass of the ice = mass of the displaced orange juice. So when the ice cube melts, there would be no change in mass of the system. ] Did I do it correctly? If answering, please ignore the part in brackets until finished answering.Explanation / Answer
It was asked about level would rise or not.. for that u first think about change in volume..when ice will melt its volume wil will decrease because density of ice is less than water .. therefore juice level will fall... unfortunatly u did wrng..
