Question
A group of students measured the interaction force between a wire in a magnetic field and the magnet responsible for the field using a wire of length 4.1 cm. They obtained the following results. Current (A) Force (N) ?.520 -0.0241 -0.210 -0.0121 0.280 0.0161 0.770 0.0281 (a) Analyze the data. (You will not submit this spreadsheet. However, the results will be needed later in this problem.) (i) Enter the above data into an Excel spreadsheet. (ii) Make a plot of force versus current. (iii) Use the trendline option in Excel to fit the data of force versus current to get the slope. (b) Report this value below. slope = (c) Now, use the length of the wire to determine the strength of the magnetic field B in which the experiment was carried out. B = **I have tried multiple times to get the correct answer using Excel, but for some reason I keep getting the slope wrong. I can't do (c) without the correct answer for slope since I have to do slope/length for that answer. Please help!Explanation / Answer
b) plot is force vs current slope = change in current /change in force = i2-i1/f2-f1 =(-370+710)/(-0.0103+0.0206) =340 /0.0103 =33009.7 mA/N + or - 4% slope = 33009.7+4% =34330.088mA/N slope = 33009.7-4% =31689.3 mA/N c) F = BiL B = F/I L L =4cm =0.04m B = 1/L*slope =1/0.04*33009.7*10^-3 = 0.7573T units for B is TESLA
