Question

Krusty the Clown is testing new slapstick
antics for his show and they all involve
Sideshow Bob crashing into a wall as shown
below. Antic A involves Bob striking the
wall at speed v, and rebounding from it at
speed, v. Antic B involves Bob in a velcro
suit striking the wall at speed v, and
sticking to it. Antic C involves Bob striking
the wall at speed, v, crashing through
it and exiting at speed v/2. Rank the magnitude
of the impulse delivered by the wall
and rank the magnitude
of the average force that the wall exerts
on Sideshow Bob.

Explanation / Answer

impulse =mv

case 1) impulse = -m(2v)

case 2) impulse =-mv

case 3)impulse = -mv/2

hecne the magnitude of impulse is in same order as shown above

F =impulse/t

asuming t(time for collision) is same for all 3 cases..(otherwise F cant be calculated)

hence Force is also in the order shown above ie case 1 case 2 case 3
