Question
So I had a problem on collision between two objects, and I understand how to find the velocity and stuff, but what I don't understand is how to find the elasticity. I know this is the equation and rules for elasticity or partial elasticity: e = v2-v1/u1-u2 From the ratio we can tell whether the collision is elastic(e=1) or partially elastic (e<1) and this is to tell if it is inelastic: if v2-v1 = u1-u2 But what I don't understand is what is the equation for the "u" part so that I may find the elasticity?Explanation / Answer
well its simple.. :) u1 -u2 represents the approaching RELATIVE velocity.. v2-v1 represents the RECEDING RELATIVE velocity.. the ratio gives elasticity. consider two snooker balls on a pool.. they are almost perfectly elastic.
