Question
We are going to fire a laser at a position of one meter to the left of the left of the bottom right corner of a box. Assume the sides of the box to be perfect mirrors. We have now added a 2 meter thick chamber of water in the middle of the table. At what angle do we need to point the laser, as measured from the positive x direction (theta = 0), in order to have the light pulse arrive back to the starting position? How long did the light take to leave and return? It is not 90 degrees. You must bounce the laser off of more than one wall.Explanation / Answer
try using 45 degrees, and draw it out. You'll see that you get a series of very nice right triangles which have two sides of equal length. This makes it easy to figure out the geometry. The end of the 6th path will end at the original position
