Question

Suppose that you can throw a projectile at a large enough v(initial) so that it can hit a target a distance R downrange. Given that you know v(initial) and R, determine the general expressions for the two distinct launch angles theta1 and theta2 that will allow the projectile to hit D. For v(initial)=30m/s and R=70m, determine numerical values for theta1 and theta2. Please show all of your work. WILL RATE BEST ANSWER. For clarification, both arrows are v(initial) and theta2 is the big angle, theta 1 is the smaller angle.

Explanation / Answer

for any projectile range R=2v2sincos/g

so for two projectile the range will be same for two angles 1 and 2 only when 1=90-2

for v=30m/s and R=70 m

70=30^2 sin2/g

=24.830

so 1=24.83 and 2=90-1 = 65.17
