Question

free fall. Jack throws a ball off a 55m high cliff at an angle of 30 degrees below the horizontal with a speed of 15m/s. ignore air resistance and friction. Find how long the book is in the air and how far from the edge of the cliff does the book land? I do not need just solutions. i need to understand HOW to get to the solution. Any help is appreciated. What i did. coordinate system. down is positive and right is positive. 1. Break up velocity into its components: Vx=15cos30, Vy=15sin30. 2. use vertical components to solve for time: use this equation to solve for Velocity final V(final)^2= V(initial)^2 + 2ay*delta X sqrt of (15sin30^2) + (2)(9.8)(55) = 33.68m/s use another equation to solve for time **this is where i am having trouble.. Vy=V(Initial Y) + ay*t solve for t and plug in numbers... 33.68-15sin30/9.8 = 2.67s 3. then use time & the x components to solve for distance. delta X=V*T DX=15cos30*2.67= 34.68m

Explanation / Answer

In Y direction s=uy*t+1/2gt^2 s=55m uy=15sin30 g=+9.81m/s^2 fro here we will get Time Now in X direction dist= ucos30 t from here we will get horizontal distance
