Question

The mass and wheel base of the 4-wheel drive dragster is shown is 650 kg and 2.85m, respectively. Its center of gravity lies at X(AG)=2.28m and Y(g)=0.81 m, determine the maximum acceleration such that the wheels neither slip nor leave the ground. The coefficient of friction are mu(s)=0.75 and mu(k)=0.55

Explanation / Answer

Let the maximum accelelarion be a...

so.. at maximum accelelarion, the wheel at A willl just leave the ground.. so.. normal reation at A = 0

taking moment of all the force about B

650*9.8*(2.85-2.28) = 650*a*0.81

so.. accceleraion a = 6.8963 m/sec2

...

but we will also have to check for slipping.. for this we will use kinetic friction..

so maximum accelerionn for no slipping = mu_k * g = 0.55*9.8 = 5.39 m/sec2

so ,,, max.. accelelarion = 5.39 m/sec2
