Question
4 billion years ago the earth's rotational speed was much greater than itis today, with a "day" lasting about 10 hours. Tidal interactions with the moon have slowed Earth's rotation to its present 24hour period.
A) assuming a constant angular acceleration, find its value and express in radians per second using appropriate scientific notation.
B) using the values of angular acceleration you found in part a, find how many years frm present it will be when the "day"is 25 hours
Please explain the equtions you are using so i can follow how you did it thanks
Explanation / Answer
earlier angular speed was 2 pi radians in 10 hrs ie 2pi/10 rad/hr
now it is 2pi/24
angular acc= 2*3.14(1/24-1/10)/(3600*3600*4*365*24*10^9)= -8.066*10^-22
new angular velocity= 2pi/25 rad/hr
t= 2*3.14*(1/25-1/24)/(-8.066*10^-22)
=411 billion years
