What is Client-server network? Explain why the line between a client and a server has become blurred in today's operating systems.

Explanation / Answer

1.Data Communication: Data communication is the exchange of data between a source and a receiver through a transmission medium (wired or wireless)

compoents:

Source: The source is the device which sends the message. It can be a computer, workstation or mobile

Receiver: The receiver is the device which receives the message. It can be a computer, workstation or mobile

Medium: The transmission medium is the path by which a message travels from sender to receiver. It can made of twisted pair wire, coaxial cable.

Message: The message is the data to be communicated. It can consist of text, number, pictures, sound, or video. some times we transmission can be done in the form packets too.

Protocol: A protocol is a set of rules that establish data communication. It represents an agreement between the communicating devices. Without a protocol, two devices may be connected but not communicating,

The source will sends the message and the receiver receives the message. message send over the medium and the protocol is the set of rules that guides how the data is transmitted from encrytpted form to decrytpted form.

2.Modem:

Advantages of modem:

3. Difference between an analog and a digital signal.:

4.packet switching: In a packet-switched network, data is transferred by dividing the data into individual packets and passing it through the circuits to the another host, here, the route is not exclusively determined when the packets hit the wire.

example: from our PC connect to website and we can download from, so it begin downloading one application at a time. Each packet has to find its own route to our computer.

circuit switching: In circuit switching network there is a dedicated channel has to be established before the call is made between users. The channel is reserved between the users till the connection is active

example: if we want to call from a land line phone theres is specific path establishment occur between our landline to another phone

Analog Digital Analog signal is a continuous signal Digital signals are discrete time signals Denoted by sine waves
Denoted by square waves Human voice, analog electronic devices are examples Computers, CDs, DVDs, and other digital electronic devices Records sound waves as they are Converts into a binary waveform.
Continuous range of values
Discontinuous values
Low cost and portable Cost is high and not easily portable
