A self excited DC machine experiment as mentioned in above problem, as the brushes of the machine are adjusted to neutral point, armature reaction drop will be negligible.
Let us discuss the characteristics obtained from the experiment; No load voltage(when RL= infinity, Terminal voltage is 7.92 V and voltage regulation is zero and so is the load current.
As the load RL decreases , load current delivered by generator increases which further decreases the voltage thereby increasing the voltage regulation.
As the load current crosses 20A, terminal voltage falls steeply , so it is not advisable to operate DC generator beyond this point since, the ohmic drop and armature reaction drop worsens the voltage regulation.
