As you have mentioned that there was no cause for circuit breaker to trip the motor, most common faults such as over current, short circuit, over heating and low resistance are ruled out.
What seems to have happened is under-voltage condition.
Have you ever observed CFL lamps going dim for some time during peak hours? What happens?
Whenever an industrial load goes in operation (mostly induction motors in the surrounding area) starting current drawn is about 5 to 8 times the rated current. Such huge current leads to momentary voltage drop from the feeder to receiver end that is no longer negligible. This condidtion is termed under-voltage condition. As the inductive load start operating , current gets limited and feeder voltage drop gets reduced. If we connect our motor now to the network it works just fine.
