Problem: Electric Motor stopped working suddenly with out any Alarm or any major cause up to our glance. This problem was faced in the (please make sure to replace here the situation where the Motor has failed in your scenario) for ex: in The distribution system involving so & so VCB’s like that.

This caused the Motor failure for sometime & unwanted downtime in spite of having redundancy in the System to automatic restart of Electrical motor.So again,to fix this we have done by making just trip and keeping rest all for dry fault for sometime and restarted the Motor which made the Motor to work smoothly after removing the trip.

Study Recommended: A physical inspection of the Facility involving Electric Motor along with the detailed Harmonic analysis(if necessary only). A load flow analysis can be done to fix the issue without any other failure in near future.

Observation: (Here am writing my estimation about the failure cause as I have not verified the physical condition of Electric motor, as this is purely an estimation about one of the reason in Motor Failures).

-> Physical checking revealed that surge of electricity is not present here in the system, some electric motors need a surge of electricity when they start up. These surges will be up to three times the actual current which the motor uses when running at normal speed. We can use an overload relay which works better than a normal circuit breaker since it can withstand the surge without any tripping. These protect motor circuits by only tripping when some other problem arises.

Problem Identified: All the findings till now revealed that the basic problem was with the faulty designing of the Voltage(surge) distribution. The detailing of the requirement for trip was not done properly which in turn caused wrong tripping of any relay. The CB was observed to be absolutely fine here. Motor overheat might also be one of the reasons here, If a motor is placed in a hot climate or in enclosed building that is not properly ventilated, it may heat up over time. In this case, overload relay may sense the increased current from the over heat & will trip in order to protect the Motor.

Solution Executed: The solution was achieved here by just by trip and the rest all set for dry fault by restarting the Motor manually.(The breaker trip motors were replaced with proper rated motors OR according to your case as said already, without ay trip only).
