Question
Consider the following DC circuit. A collection of resistors, as shown, is attached to 16.0 V battery. The resistances in the circuit are: R1 = 15.0 ?, R2 = 20.0 ?,, R3 = 30.0 ?,, and R4 = 40.0 ?,. What is the current through the resistor R2 (that is, the 20.0 ?, resistor)?
Consider the following DC circuit. A collection of resistors, as shown, is attached to 16.0 V battery. The resistances in the circuit are: R1 = 15.0 ?, R2 = 20.0 ?,, R3 = 30.0 ?,, and R4 = 40.0 ?,. What is the current through the resistor R2 (that is, the 20.0 ?, resistor)?Explanation / Answer
lets find equivalent resistance of circuit
R= R1 + (R3+R4) || R2
= 15 + 70 || 20
= 15 + 20*70/(20+70)
= 15 + 15.556
= 30.556 ohm
I= V/R = 16/30.556 = 0.524 A
Voltage across R2 = 16V - 0.524 * R1
= 16 - 0.524 * 15
= 8.145 V
Current across R2 = V/ R
= 8.145/ 20
= 0.407 A
