Question
This is for my quiz and and all help would be appreciated, thanks.
For a convering thin spherical lens of radius r, a) determine the distance an object must be placed infront of the mirror to produce an image with a magnification M and b) at what distance from the lens will the image be located, and c) will the image be on the same side of the lens as the object or on the opposite side?
For a diverging thin spherical lens of radius r, a) determine the distance an object must be placed infront of the mirror to produce an image with a magnification M and at b) what distance from the lens will the image be located,c) and will the image be on the same side of the lens as the object or on the opposite side?
assign any value for R, and M
Explanation / Answer
f = r/2
-v/u = M
v = -uM
1/f = 1/v + 1/u
2/r = [1 - 1/M]/u
u = r[M-1] / 2M
v = -uM = -r[M-1]/2
Image will be on opposite side of lens
For diverging lens
f = -r/2
-v/u = M
v = -uM
1/f = 1/v + 1/u
-2/r = [1 - 1/M]/u
u = -r[M-1] / 2M
v = r[M-1]/2
Image will be on same side of lens
