Question
Put each sign or lab value with an aspect of liver failure that would cause it. Some signs may have multiple causes! Reset Help Low plasma proteins Low plasma K Low plasma osmolarity Spider nevi (broken capillaries) Liver no longer Liver decreases its Liver decreases its Liver decreases its protein synthesis breaks down protein synthesis protein synthesis. and no longer makes and no longer doste bile effectively, Edema (swelling) breaks down decreasing the aldosterone High blood pressure absorption of lipids effectively. and lipid-soluble vitaminsExplanation / Answer
The liver is the largest gland present in the body. It performs major functions such as maintenance of blood glucose levels, eliminating toxins from the body, removal of dead RBC, production of bile etc..,
Any damage to the liver can have serious consequences in the body.
The following are the four liver conditions given
1. Liver decreases its protein synthesis: Liver cells produce plasma proteins especially albumin and hence plasma proteins would be low. and with low plasma protein, there would be oedema/swelling in the ankle and legs.
2. Liver no longer breaks down aldosterone properly: Aldosterone is a steroid hormone and is involved in sodium level regulation and if aldosterone is not broken down it results in sodium reabsorption and loss of potassium ions thereby water reabsorption resulting in high blood pressure and low plasma k+ ions. A significant thing is with high blood pressure the capillaries are broken leaking blood.
3. Liver decreases its protein synthesis and no longer breaks down aldosterone: With both defects in the metabolism there might be a low plasma protein, low plasma k+, high blood pressure, broken capillaries, oedema
4. Liver decreases its protein synthesis and no longer produces bile effectively decreasing the absorption of lipids and lipid soluble vitamins: Bile is an important element where it regulates the hormone absorption, vitamin absorption.edema is seen,
