Question

Please help me answer this 3 questions. Thanks a lot. Part 2: Induced emf from a moving electromagnet While the power supply is OFF, turn the voltage control knob on to about 2/3 of the circle, while turn the current control knob all the way to the left (meaning OFF) Hook the power supply to the smaller coil (using RED wire for wire for negative), turn ON the power supply, turn the current knob slowly to about 2.5- 3.0 A. This will be your electromagnet. Insert the steel rod inside the coil. Magnetic material (like iron/steel) is used to insert inside electromagnet to enhance their strength. Tracing the current through the winding of the coil, predict the direction of the B field and thus equivalent North/South pole of the bottom of your electromagnet. (Go answer question 1) Using permanent magnet on rotating stand, check your prediction on (3). From your data in part 1, predict what you will see as you move your electromagnet from high above to be inside, pause, and then take it out of the detecting coil. (Go answer question 2) Verify your prediction (like you have done with the permanent magnet.) (Go answer question 3) 1. 2. positive and BLACK 3. 4. 5. 6. Question 1 (answer on your tear-sheet at the end) B field inside the electromagnet points The lower end of the electromagnet is a (up/down). (North/South) pole Question 2 (answer on your tear-sheet at the end) Sketch your prediction of the induced emf. Clearly label along the time axis the motion of the electromagnet. Question 3 (answer on your tear-sheet at the end) Does your prediction agree with the observed result? If'not, explain any disagreement.

Explanation / Answer

1- The B field(magnetic field ) inside will point in upper direction as the magnetic field goes from North to south pole.

- The lower end is north pole.

Question 2 and 3 three are practical questions . They can not be Answered without practically doing it.
