Question

Suppose a person you loved dearly was about to take a Circuit Analysis FINAL covering the first 10 chapters of Fundamentals of Electric Circuits by Charles K. Alexander and Matthew N. O. Sadiku and they were allowed to have a page of notes. What would you consider essential formulas, theorems, or concepts that they should include on this note sheet?

The link to the solutions for this book is here: https://www.chegg.com/homework-help/fundamentals-of-electric-circuits-5th-edition-solutions-9780073380575 in case that helps.

Things like general rules for how to find Thevenin/Norton or when to use superposition or any other tips or advice or suggestions are what I'm trying to gather with this question.

Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

First of all congratulations for completing such a great subject.

I am listing some important headlines which can be very important in future, when you use circuit analysis..

1) first of all you must understand sinusoidal signal and how we convert it into phasor form and vice versa.

2) what is RMS values of current and voltage , behaviour of capacitor, inductor in series and parallel, short circuit, open circuit, Redundant branches etc.

3) AC fundamental , calculating frequency, angular frequency etc, voltage division in series circuit, current division in parallel circuit, star to delta , delta to star conversion.

4) Kirchoff's law, node analysis, mesh analysis, supernode, supermesh, you can make point how to use it, combination of sources conversion of voltage to current and vice versa.

5) superposition theorem-steps to apply, thevenin's theorem- steps, method of calculating Zeq if dependent source is present, limitations. Norton's theorem-steps, Relationship between thevenin's and Norton's theroem. Maximum power transfer theorem- for complex circuit and for normal circuit. Millman's theorem-steps to apply.

6) Resonant circuit- series resonant and parallel resonant. Calculation of Q factor, reactance curve, properties of series and parallel resonance circuit, antiresonance circuit, selectivity, bandwidth etc., You can list formulas for this because steps are not necessarily important if you know basic impedance , series parallel circuit analysis.

7) Laplace transform, steady state value of current and voltage for inductor and capacitor respectively. Behaviour of inductor and capacitor under steady state conditions. Transient response of RL, RC, RLC circuit etc. You can not list formulas for this but you can understand it throughly, because it is very important in circuit analysis.

8) Network Function- one port, two port, how to calculate transfer function, poles and Zeros of system, necessary condition for transfer function.

9) Two port Network- Z parameter, Y parameter, H parameter, ABCD or T parameter. You can list conversion from each other but understand how to calculate every parameter of circuit is given. Condition of symmetry for all parameter, condition for reciprocity for all parameter, you can list it but better remember it. Interrelationships between parameter, interconnection of two Port- series, parallel, cascade.

10) Transmission line-different parameter, infinite line, short line, propagation constant formula, wavelength, velocity, relationship between primary and secondary constant, General solution for transmission line, formula for alpha, B, and primary constant etc. reflection coefficient, standing wave etc. You can find different formula in this but steps are also important. Better solve Maximum questions on this topic.

11) Network graph- different terminology, tree, cotter etc understand this topic because you can not summeriz it.

Please understand everything because in this subject there are large number of concept and formula, if you want to summeriz first understand it throughly. Make your own notes, don't copy directly.

And remember one thing there is no book which has everything, but you can learn everything from different books. Please understand concept, you will solve any problem.

If you find any difficulty, you can find me in comment box. Thank you.
