Question

I appreciate any help with the following questions. Thank you.

(1)

With reference to the accumulated value shown for the up-counter in the ladder logic program below, how many times must the pushbutton IN1 be pressed until the pilot light (PL) turns on?

(2)

The accumulated value in an up-counter instruction is currently 5. What will be the accumulator value after the following series of pulses is applied to the input of the counter?

(3)

(TCO 3) Which of the following statements is true?

To determine the number of cars entering a parking garage we use an up-counter instruction. CTU (Count-Up Counter) IN1 Counter C5CU Preset Accumulted 4 12 NO PB IN1 DN) C5/DN -(PL

Explanation / Answer

1) As we can see from counter instructions, preset is set at 12, therefore to enable PL we require Done(DN) bit to be equal to or greater than preset value. As currently accumulated value is at 4, therefore we need 8 bit to start lamp.

2) For every rising pulse accumulator value will increase by 1 therefore as counter accumulator value is 5 then for first rising pulse we get 6 then for second it will be 7, then there is no clock pulse at third bit therefore counter will be at previous state i.e. 7, similarly we will get at last pulse 10.

3) All of the above is correct, because up counter is used for car entering in parking garage, to determine no. Of parts made in 30 minutes required both counter as well as timer. To determine number of parts removed we require down counter.
