Question

Question 17 (1 point) You are instaling a fuorescent light and notice that the lights were made in Europe and that the ballast is rated for operation on a 50Hz system will the ballast be harmed if connected to 60 Hz? If there is problem with this light, what will be the most likely cause of the trouble? Choose from the list below the 2 correct responses! UA) Voltage will be lower B) Not no damage to ballast CVoltage will be too high! D) Yes! ballast will be damaged! E) Too much current flow print.jpg Too little current flow Save

Explanation / Answer

Generally 50 Hz appliances are designed for 220 - 240 V and 60 Hz for 110V. So, if you plug a 60 Hz ballast, it will burn out because of the higher voltage and thus higher current passing through ballast , not the frequency. As v/f ratio is not maintained the ballast would run 20% excess volatage thus excess current so it eventually burnt out
