Question

1. Define in words and mathematical equations the turns ratio of an ideal transformer. 2. Define in words and mathematical equations the relationship between the transformers windings and winding curents. (Current ratio) 3. How are impedances affected by the turns ratio of the ideal transformer? 4. How does the power factor of the load affect the current and the voltage ratios in actual transformer operation? S. What is the relationship for primary and secondary power in an ideal transformer? 6. List or discuss uses of transfomers in industry.

Explanation / Answer

1) the number of turns in the primary winding of a transformer is N1.

the number of turns in the secondary winding of a transformer is N2.

turns ratio=[N1/N2].

transformation ratio (K)=[N2/N1]=[I1/I2]=[V2/V1].

(2) for every transformer the primary winding current(I1) is not equal to the secondary winding current(I2).

from the concept of transformation ratio (K)=[N2/N1]=[I1/I2].

(3) for any transformer turns ratio is not dependent on impedance of the windings.

(5) for any transformer input power is equal to the output power.

(6) (a)basically transformer is used to stepdown or stepup the voltage without change in power

(b) in industry the required voltage is attained by adjustion the transformer turns.

(c) by using transformer, the copper losses are reduced, so the effieciency is improved.[by increasing the voltage].

(d) there is no rotating part in the transformer, so the efficiency of the transformer is very high about 97%.
