Question

Task 3 PROTOCOLS AND NETWORKING C and with computers or the PLCs may interrogate other equipment such as counters timers, flow meters, temperature sensors and level gauges. They may also signals to other hardware items such as a bank of pneumatic valves or a pipe omputers communicate with other computers various parts of an engineering system such as logic controllers. The line controller. PROTOCOLS Describe the following :- 1, RS232 2. RS422 3. 0 to 10V 4. 4 to 20mA For each of the above explain their advantages and disadvantages.

Explanation / Answer

A) RS 232 is a serial communication technology, where RS refers to “Recommended Standard”. RS232 was initially introduced as a standard for electromechanical typewriters and modems. It is a serial interface (data transfers bit by bit on a single transmission line) to which we can connect mouse, modem and printer. It only allows one transmitter and one receiver on each line. It is a 9-pin male connector. RS232 acts as an interface between Data terminal equipment and Data communication equipment.

ADVANTAGES

B) RS422 is an updated version of original serial protocol RS232 used for binary serial communication. 1 transmitter can serve upto 10 receivers in parallel. It finds applications in Broadcast automations.
