Question

Please help me find the Magnitude and Direction .. I have tried and got 2 incorrect answers.

My first answer was 416.608 and then I tried once more and got 808... obviously I got the direction wrong. afterwards.

A person walks the path shown. The trip consists of four straight-line paths. At the end of the walk, what is the magnitude of the person's resultant displacement measured from the starting point? Answer in units of m Your answer must be within plusminus 1.0% What is the direction (measured from due west, with counterclockwise positive) of the person's resultant displacement? Answer in units of degree Your answer must be within plusminus 1.0%

Explanation / Answer

Resultant Vector =>

= 109 i - 444j - 232cos(47) i - 232sin(47) j - 213cos(15) i + 213 sin(15) j

= -254.96 i - 558.54 j

1)

Magnitude = sqrt(254.96^2 + 558.54^2) = 613.98

2)

angle = tan^-1(558.54/254.96) = 65.46

Measured from due west => angle = 65.46
