Thanks for the help in advance!
Question:
A pot of hot water is boiling on your stove. The pot is in the shape of a round cylinder made of aluminum which is 10 cm in radius. The aluminum is 3 mm thick. You notice that after 13 minutes, 0.15 kg of water has boiled away.
A:
What is the temperature of the inner surface of the bottom of the pot?
Answer: In celcius
B:
How much energy is required to boil away M kg of water?
Answer: In J
C:
What is the difference in temperature between the inner and outer sufaces of the aluminum bottom of the pot?
Answer: In Celcius
D:
What is the change in entropy of the boiling water after boiling away 0.15 kg of water?
Answer: in J/k
Explanation / Answer
Assuming this is at standard pressure (sea level on Earth), then if the pot is open, water boils at 100C so that must be the temperature of the inner surface.
Th others I don't know without looking it up, but you can calculate the power from the time taken to evaporate 100g. That and the heat conductivity of aluminum will give you the temperature difference across the bottom, and hence the temperature of the outer surface.
