Question
Hello :)
I am just wondering what would effect a tossed ball and a dropped ball's g value...? I am doing this lab and when we tossed the ball we got a closer g value (9.66...) to the actual value of 9.8 but when dropping the ball we got a different lower value (9.45..)
I am just wondering why would there be a difference between the dropped ball and tossed ball g values? I though maybe air resistance and spin (the tossed ball had spin on it). But how do these factors affect the g value?
Thank you so much hope someone can help
Explanation / Answer
In fact there is not any difference between the dropped ball and tossed ball g values.... and the air resistance are equal for the dropped ball and tossed ball generally...
But if the tossed ball had spin on it, it has more energy and could over come to the air resistance partially and therefore a smaller g is expected.
