Question

An athlete starts at point A and runs at a constant speed of 5.40m/s around a round track 150m in diameter, as shown in figure. Find the

x and y component of this runner's average velocity between points A and B. B to C; C to D; and D to A

Find the x and y component of this runner's average aceleration between points

B to C; C to D; and D to A

Explanation / Answer

a) Displacement / time

Displacement (A-B) or (B-C) or (C-D) or (D-A) = sqrt(2) * r = 106.066 m

Time = distance / speed = (pi*r/2)/5.4 = 21.8166 s

Velocity = 106.066/21.8166 = 4.86 m/s

Components :

A- B = 4.86 * ( i + j) / sqrt(2)

B-C = 4.86 *( i - j) / sqrt(2)

C-D = 4.86 *( -i -j) /sqrt(2)

D-A = 4.86 * (- i + j) / sqrt(2)
