Question
1. Find the equivalent resistance between points A and B for the group of resistors shown in the figure below, where R1 = 95 ?and R2 = 45 ?.
?
2. The equivalent resistance between points A and B of the resistors shown in the figure below is 42 ?. Find the value of resistanceR.
?
Explanation / Answer
1)
As, 35 ohm & R1 are in series, so their resultant = 35 + R1
= 35 + 95
= 130 ohm
Now, R2 is in parallel with the complete 130 ohm, their resultant = 130 x R2 / (R2 + 130)
= 130 x 45 / (130 + 45)
= 33.429 ohm.
2)
The complete equivalent resistance = 12 + [55 x R / (55 + R)]
42 = 12 + [55 x R / (55 + R)]
30 = 55 x R / (55 + R)
(55 + R) = 55 x R / 30
55 = 11R/6 - R
55 = 5R / 6
R = 55 x 6 / 5
= 66 ohm.
