Question
1. a) When 50 g of ice at -10 ? are added to 1.0 kg of water at 15 ?, is there enough ice to cool the water to 0 ??
b)Find the final temperature of water?
2.A gas sample undergoes the cyclic process ABCA shown in the figure (Figure 1) , where AB lies on an isotherm. The pressure at point A is 68kPa .
a) Find the pressure at B.
b) Find the net work done on the gas.
3. The balloon contains 0.30 mol of helium starts at a pressure of 125kPa and rises to an altitude where the pressure is 75.0kPa , maintaining a constant 300 K temperature.
a)By what factor does its volume increase?
b)How much work does the gas in the balloon do?
Been trying to get these questions on my physics assignment for a few days now, but just can't seem to get them. Would love if someone could help me, even with just one!! Thanks so much!
Explanation / Answer
1a. YES ITS ENOUGH.
b. let t be the resultant temperature. then heat lost = heat gained
m1xs1x ( th - t ) = m2xs2x( t - tc ) => 1x1x(15- t ) = 0.05x1(t + 10 )
so t = 0.07240C
2a. V1 = 5 AND V2 =1 from graph. P1 = 68KPa ; boyles law
P1V1 = P2V2 so P2 = P1V1 / V2 = 68X5/1 = 340KPa
b. here the temperature s constant so work done W = PdV.
