Question
A.)A nonconducting solid sphere of radius 2.9 cm carries a uniformly distributed positive charge of 7.6 x10-9 Coulombs. Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at a point 1.8 cm away from the center of the sphere. B.)Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at a point 3.6 cm away from the center of the sphere. C.) Assume that the sphere is conducting. Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at a point 1.8 cm away from the center of the sphere. D.) Calculate the magnitude of the electric field for the conducting sphere at a point 3.6 cm away from the center of the sphere.
I have figured out A and B, only needing C and D.
Explanation / Answer
(c) the sphere is conducting ,hence the charge are at the surface of conduction sphere.
hence inside the sphere electric field is zero.
(d) the electric field at point 3.6 cm is given by
E=k*q/r^2
=9x109 x 7.6x10-9/(0.04)2
=4.28x104 N/C
