MOTION AT CONSTANT ACCELERATION. Please keep in mind this quesion is for a physics without calc course. This is a question on Motion.PLEASE EXPLAIN and show your steps, the answer by itself will do nothing for me. thanks.
An east bound train is traveling at 45mph (20.11m/s) and a west bound train is traveling at 75mph (33.52m/s) on a collison course. They're still separated by 1.5 miles (2414meters).
A) How far does the east bound train travel before the collision?
B) How far does the west bound train travel before the collision?
Explanation / Answer
the relative speed Vab = Va -Vb
Va = 33.52
Vb = -20.11
Vab = 53.63m/s
time for collision = d/Vab = 2414/53.63 = 45.0 s
a) distance covered by east bound train db = Vb x t = 905m
b) distance covered by west bound train = Va x t =1508.4 m
