Question

Emulating a Stand-Alone WTOG Explore the variable-speed operation of the DC motor under load, which is an emulation of a stand-alone WTG. The variable-speed DC motor represents a wind turbine under varying wind, and the synchronous generator generates electric power at variable frequency and voltage. Explore how the frequency and magnitude of the generated voltage can be adjusted under varying wind n a short paragraph, summarize your experience with the simulated WTG i.e. summarize the effect of variable speed of the DC motor and varying load on the synchronous generator voltage magnitude and frequency

Explanation / Answer

Generally wind turbines are variable speed so we use mostly doubly fed induction generator. Workers synchronous generator at variable speed, this doubly fed induction generator connected it's router through converters, by using these back to back converter we are connecting generator rotor to grid. When below synchronous speed of wind energy it worked as synchronous motor at Higher speeds more than synchronous speed it acts as synchronous generator. DC motor also used as variable speed device, the most disadvantage of DC motor is it consists of commutator weight of commutator is very large. It is difficult to manage, this variable speed can be connected through converters,we can change voltage levels and frequency
