Question

Hi there, I am building a Schmitt Trigger where the +VCC is GND/0V and -VCC is -5V. When I actually build the circuit, it always outputs -5V for some reason no matter my Vin. The op amp I am using is a LM324AM. I cannot figure out why this is doing that. I am curious if it is possible that this op amp doesn't allow GND to be in +VCC and a negative voltage in -VCC. When I run this in multisim, it works perfectly, absolutely no problems. But I have tried debugging my circuit multiple times. The Vin and Vref are exactly what they should be, the resistors are what they should be, but it is outputting the wrong voltage all the time. Any help or advice would be very appreciated!

R2 R1 Iri Out V ref

Explanation / Answer

Considering the situation that all others values are accurate. It should be noted that if +Vcc  = 0V and -Vcc = -5 Vs, the output will switch between 0 and 5 Volts only.

And one more point to be noted here, V_ref and the point above it are being compared (Node in right of R1) for getting the output.(Say Va)

If Va > V_ref : 0V

if Va < V_ref : -5 V
