Question

's Law, find the electric field E in the region above and below an th (10 pts) Using (sheet that carries a surface charge density offs-5 ? C/m: You must our work and explain your reasoning. 2) (a)(0opts) Using Gauss's infinite sheet of charge carrying a surface charge density of (b) (10 pts) Another a-5 uC/m' is placed 2 meters above the first. Use Gauss's Law and the principle of E-Er+Ea) to find the field above, between, and below the plates. You position ( show your work and explain your reasoning. super must

Explanation / Answer

(a) The total charge enclosed is qenc = ?A, the charge per unit length multiplied by the cross-sectional area

Net flux = 2EA.

Now bring in Gauss' Law and solve for the field:

By Gauss' Law the net flux = qenc/?o

2EA = ?A/?o

The factors of A cancel, leaving:

E = ?/2?o = ( 5 *10-6 ) / ( 2 * 8.85 × 10-12 ) = 2.82 * 105 V/m

(b) here E1is due to positive charged first plate and E2is due to negative charged second plate

so for above and down E1 = ?/2?o and E2 = - ?/2?o

So E = E1 + E2 = 0

but in between  E1 = ?/2?o and E2 = ?/2?o

So E  = E1 + E2 = ?/?0 = 5.64 V/m
