Question

(5 pt). BAC is defined as grams of ethanol in 100 mL of blood (g/100 mL). Minutes after drinking one fluid ounce shot of Gin, an average person will show a 0.15% BAC in a breathalyzer test. Estimate the ethanol concentration of Gin in grams per Liter (g/L). Assume an average person's body contains 5.0 L of blood. (4 pt). Compute the mass (in grams) of one atom of Pu-244. Plutonium-244 is the element's isotope that has 244 nucleons. [4 pt] One mole of depleted Uranium has a volume of 12.50 cm' Compute the density of depleted Uranium in kg/m One cubic meter (l m')-1000 L, -355-113, lL-1000 crm, 1 m-100cm, 1 kg-10 1 fluid ounce 29.5 mL, U-238 g/mol, NA-6.022 x 10 particles/mol ' g,

Explanation / Answer

We have 0.15% BAC = 0.15 gm in 100 ml.

It means 100 ml contains 0.15 g

Therefore for an average person, 5 L of blood will contain = 50 x 0.15 = 7.5 g of ethanol

Since, the same alcohol quantity was contained in gin, so 7.5 g of ethanol is contained in 1 fluid ounce of gin i.e. 29.5 ml

i.e. 29.5 ml contains 7.5 g ethanol

therfore, 1000 ml contains (7.5/29.5) x 1000 = 254.2 g of ethanol

so, concentration of gin= 254.2 g/L
