https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/image/crustalimages.html. Use this link to answer your questions 6) Look the Pacific Ocean Basin and compare it to the Atlantic. Specifically look at the oldest / youngest oceanic crust patterns. Are these ocean basins alike or different; could they be both? Explain and be specific. 7) How does the information given on this map of the age of the oceanic crust support the Theory of Plate Tectonics? 8-9) By synthesizing the information from this map and your reading, can you draw a correlation between the different ocean floor topographic features and the age of crustal material (rock)? Explain your reasoning: 10) List several other “lines of evidence” that support the Plate Tectonics Theory?

Explanation / Answer
6) Atlantic basin is younger in geological age than Pacific basin. Atlantic basin has divergent plate boundary where new crust is formed through mid oceanic ridge. Pacific basin is convergent plate boundary where crust is destroyed through subduction zone.
7) This map shows that the crust is not of the same age throught the planet Earth. New crust is continuously created and older crust destroyed. This shows that the Earth is dynamic and the crustal plates are in a continuous motion wrt each other.
8-9) Divergent plate boundaries are the mid oceanic ridges where new plate is formed and is youngest in age. Convergent plate boundaries are the subduction zones where older plates are destructed and are the oldest crust.
10) Plalentology, matching plate boundaries, lithological similarities across plates.
