Question

The effort to save golden lion tamarins began over 40 years ago. I do not have any complete figures, but the annual cost to save the species was $800,000 annually as of 2004 and that was after U.S. zoo efforts were halted. That same year, the annual cost to save black-footed ferrets was 1.5 million and 2 million to save the whooping crane. One argument for investing so much is the species can serve as a flagship species, one that raises awareness of the threats to wildlife. But with over 1100 listed endangered/threatened species in the U.S. and over 16,000 worldwide, should we really be spending that much money on one species.

(Can't be plagerized)!!!! Please post refernces if any were used as well. Thanks!!!

Explanation / Answer

We try to save endangered species because we want to. The point made in the question is valid as we have many other important issue to deal with like life threatning diseases etc. But we still want to save these species because we like the world as it is.

We want them to survive so that future generations couldn't blame that thee ancestor didn't take care of planet earth. it is true that the extinction rate has increased and that is because of the pollution in the area but we should understand that these animals also plays an important role in the food chain.

So we are spending on saving them.
