The issues relating to regulation of this drug have been hot topics in the news. However, the environmental impacts of commercial growing have not been as widely discussed. This online student discussion will look at the environmental impacts of growing marijuana commercially. Students will identify 3 environmental resources (air, water, soil, energy, etc) that will be impacted by this industry and how those resources are impacted. water:Marijauna plant requires lots of water .One plant requires on average 6 gallon water every day.So wherever marijuana is cultivated it sucks out groundwater of that region and make it water scarce .Marijuana cultivation in a region have lots of impact on water cycle of that region.
Soil:The pesticides and other chemicals used on marijuana have bad effects on soil .It impacts productivity of that soil and also affect fauna of that region specially fish population.Soil quality hit low at the areas where it is cultivated.
Energy:Generally many of its cultivators grow it indoor which requires very large amount of energy .Energy requirements are huge in number in comparison to other crops if raised in indoor conditions.
