Question
The activity focuses on some of the factors that determine population growth in a particular area, how fertility rates have declined in many areas, and variables that encourage large families in some areas but bring birth rates down in others. Chapter 7 discusses demographic transition, explaining how improved living conditions and economic development can bring down population growth rates. Brazil is highlighted in the opening case study, but Bangkok is another example of recent demographic transition. Bangkok is one of the world’s most rapidly growing cities, with a population expanding in response to growing economic prosperity and migration from impoverished rural farming regions. Review the Case Study at the beginning of the chapter, entitled “Population Stabilization in Brazil,” as well as Section 7.3, entitled “Many Factors Determine Population Growth” and Section 7.4, entitled “A Demographic Transition Can Lead to Stable Population Size.” Consider the key factors for social transitions and population growth and stabilization put forth in the reading, and apply them to consideration of Bangkok for the below question: Search in Google Earth for Bangkok, Thailand, and zoom in to examine and explore the area carefully. Also go to http://google.com/maps, enter 13.759858,100.623657 and search and then drag the street-view person icon to the place mark Go to http://world.bymap.org/BirthRate.html and find the birth rate in Thailand and the birth rate in the United States. How do they compare?
Explanation / Answer
As our activity will be focussing on the demographic divide in a particular area and also the factors like fertility rate in that area ,improved economic prosperity of that region populatof thbe affecting the population density of that region.
We will be focussing on two areas Thailand and Brazil. In Thailand if we focus on Bangkok ,population of city has increased by a large value in last few years.Bangkok's population has increased from 6.2 million to 8.2 million in one decade .Economic prosperity of this city has attracted migrants from nearby areas that has totally changed demographic divide of this city.Increased standard of living and lot of oppurtinities attract youth from rural background that is crowding the city .On one hand the rural areas population is decreasing because of migration that is hurting demographic balance of the area.
Factors determining population growth:
a) Birth rate of a particular place also defines the population density of that area.Like birth rate of thailand is on average 11.19 per 1000 person birth annually while it is 12.49 for USA.
b) Similarly death rate of the place also controls population of that city
c) Opportunities for youth like job oppurtinities ease of doing business also attract lot of population from near by areas.
d)Tourist inflow to a city increases population density of that place as lot of employment opportunities
e)Better standard of living offered by city also contribute to increased population
f)Low crime rate, better facilities like in thailand can help in increasing population.
Population stabilization in Brazil:
Rio de Jenerio being focus for carnivals attract lots of tourisy every year.Liberal culture ,tourist friendly people help in more inflow of tourist that create lot of employment oppurtinities that attract lots of people fron near by areas and contribute to demographic transition of that city.
