An 11-year-old needs a healthy diet for his proper growth and development. The diet will be same as the dietary needs of any other child of the same age, but the diet should be healthy. Kids with diabetes benefit from a healthy diet the same as everyone else. Carefully select the food groups while planning the diet. Jason should be made aware of his health condition and the importance of following a healthy diet. The time of food is very important in managing diabetes. As Jason is moderately active and he has participated in soccer practice caloric requirement will be around 1600 - 2200calories.

To achieve the desired calories the diet should include carbohydrate 60-70%, Protein 20-30%, fat 10-20%. While considering the Type 1 DM, complex carbohydrates can be included in the diet along with insulin therapy to meet the growing needs of the child.
