ISSUES FACED BY STUDENTS TAKING UP ONLINE COURSES VS STUDENTS TAKING UP ON CAMPUS TRANING /TRADITIONAL EDUCATION:

SOLID DRAWBACKS OF ONLINE E-COURSES:

Students are supposed to be glued to an electronic machine such as computer, Ipad or any such device and there is no face to face interaction. This is a significant drawback because students when learing in a classroom setup with a professor standing and teaching in front not only learn the subject , but can think, question, interact and learn which serves as a key to personal development as well. E-learning setup can never duplicate the human experience/exposure one has in the traditional setup. A teacher also serves as a leader in infront of the students through their discipline, dedication and mannerisms etc.

Students should be more organized, disciplined and manage time effectively when taking up these courses. Not all students fit into this criteria. Some of them require supervision. They should be highly self-motivated to complete the course but in the traditional setup, the teacher asseses the students and can deal with his/her leraning difficulties and can focus on developing their personal skills as well. online courses are not suitable for all learners.

Online courses will not be effective for skill-oriented subjects and fields which require hands on training. For example, if a student takes up a health care course/paramedical subjects, he/she cant just learn the theory. It requires a lot of practice oriednted sessions and simulted learning setup. Certain subjects require a perfect fusion of both theory and practival session. Therefore, online courses dosent suit all.

Students who are differently abled with several conditions such as mobility disorders, visual/hearing impairment , psychological disorders and learning disability cannot actually learn through online courses.

In the traditional setup, you will be ringed with fellow students learning different courses, faculty and guest lecturers. This will be an opportunity to network and create lasting connections for life. This is definitely a significant disadvantage for e-learning students. Eventhough apps such as linkedin, facebook, hike proved to connect with a ot of people, it still cannot replicate interpersonal face-face interactions.

DIFFICULTIES FACED BY STUDENTS LEARNING ON-CAMPUS:

There is no flexibility in the traditional learning setup. You have a proper in-time and out-time and will be monitored with attendance. your courseworks need to be completed within the stipulated period. But its a different scenario for students who learn online, they can balance work, family and study. It's very beneficial for students who work part-time and manage study. They can login anytime when they want to study and can log out!

You need to commute to the campus. Its definitely a waste of your precious time. Commuting can also be difficult during bad weather conditions and when there are broken roads , mechanical problems with bike/car. But when your doing an online course, all you require is an electronic device with an active internet connection. you dont have to wory whats happening outside. You can also save money spent on travelling!

On-campus training can be expensive. This is one of the significant reason why students choose on line courses. Especially in a country like India, the amount spent on education is drastically hign when compared to online courses which are comparitively lower. Its very difficult for students with a poor financial background to meet these expenses.

Several universities have short and part-time courses but you need to attend atleast a 14 weeks or 12 weeks, but you can get 6week and 8 week faster courses in online. So its definitely a boon to students who want to finish courses rapidly and move on.

There are several more aspects to be discussed on challenges/difficulties faced by students doing online courses VS on-campus courses, I have just highlighted the key issues.
