Hospitals are facing numerous challenges in the implementation clinical Information System. Almost 83% of the physician have expressed frustration on CIS. The information system is useful in a number of ways, but some of the obstacles make physician to resistant. The Organization has to overcome the physician resistance and make solutions to adopt CIS.
Productivity Factors:
At the initial stage of CIS implementation, the physician feels frustrated by documenting the patient data even though it saves time. The need for more training makes them anxious. The CIS system should take steps to make features that help doctors and to involve them in the decision making. The physician should be emphasized about CIS importance during the training program.
Physician Factors:
The primary goal of any health care provider is the patient safety. Computer physician order entry makes the physician to save time and to minimize the errors. Concern about patient safety will make the physician accept the implementation of CIS. This can be achieved through the programs at the education level.
Vendor Factors:
The IT staff should provide advanced features that help in clinical settings. The vendor should rectify the issues within the information system. The vendor should discuss with the physician in deciding the features of the software system. Immediate attention of IT staff to the issues arising with the information system will reduce the problem of care providers. The vendor should involve in the training program.
Setting factor:
Most of the organization does not invest adequately in the implementation of CIS. So the inadequate technical support is another barrier to physician resistance. The Organization must provide round the clock technical support and provision of the adequate devices necessary for the physician will increase the acceptance.
Patient factor:
The increase in patient satisfaction will directly increase the physician acceptance. Allow the physician to the preferred type of communication with the patient. The patient expectation should also be included in the planning of CIS. Assure the patient in the protection of personal details of clinical data and safe transformation of data in one unit and another unit. Protect the data by using a password and easy access to the physician about the needed patient information.
