Kenneth Bronson is a 27-year-old male who was just admitted to the Medical Unit from the Emergency Department. He presented to the Emergency Department two hours ago with chest tightness, difficulty breathing, a productive cough for a week, and fever. Chest x-ray revealed right lower lobe pneumonia. IV was started of normal saline at 75 mL per hour. He is receiving oxygen at 2 L/min per nasal cannula. SpO2on room air was 90%, which increased to 95% with supplemental oxygen. He had a temp of 102.6°F and was given acetaminophen 1,000 mg in the Emergency Department. Pharmacy just delivered the antibiotics to be given.

4. Pneumonia is the consolidation of lung. At the time of admission , chest x-ray reveals right lower lobe pneumonia and spo2 was 90%. So the follow-up assessment is important until chest x-ray becomes clear and oxygen saturation increased to 100%. Follow up assessment is necessary to check the patient periodically. Chest x-ray is essential to role out the prognosis of pneumonia after treatment. Advice the patient to follow strict hand hygiene and avoid crowd areas to prevent getting of infection. Advice the patient to take more fluids 3000 ml per day unless contraindicated. Advice the patient to follow antibiotic regimen strictly. Educate the patient to see a doctor whenever the patient feels difficulty in breathing.
5. At the end of the scenario , mentioned that pharmacy just delivered the antibiotics to be given. Nursing care is needed to explain the antibiotics action and the dose , frequency has to explain to the patient. Nursing care also include health education about how to prevent infection and maintain hand hygiene.
6. If the family members were present at the bedside of emergency situation , first support the family members emotionally. Explain about the procedures whatever done to the patient. Provide information about pneumonia and it's prognosis.
7. If the patient experience acute respiratory distress , first and foremost nursing action to maintain patent airway. Elevate the head end of the patient to ease breathing. Administer humidified oxygen if prescribed. Incease the fluid intake to 3000 ml per day if not contraindicated. Administer antibiotics if prescribed. Encourage the patient to do deep breathing and coughing technique. Advice the patient to do pursed lip breathing. Avoid sternous activities. Advice the patient to take rest in between activities. If there is sputum , advice the patient for safe disposal.
8. At time of emergency , always keep resuscitation tray ready at the bed side of the patient. Make sure that all items in the resuscitation tray in a working condition. Check oxygen supply and function of suction apparatus. Keep all emergency drugs ready at patient bedside.
