Question
1.If a light ray is impingent on a smooth surface at an angle of 2.10E+1 deg to the normal, what will be its angle of reflection?
2.Each of the following situations shows a ray of light passing into an object. Select which medium has the larger index of refraction (medium 1 or medium 2). Medium 1 is always outside the object. Medium 2 is in the interior of the object. If the path shown is unphysical (light can't do what it's doing), select unphysical as the option.
A ray of light hits the surface between air and an unknown material at an angle A of 44.1°. It travels through the unknown material at an angle B of 27.4° relative to the vertical. What is the index of refraction of the material?
Light is entering a polarizer or set of polarizers from the left. Determine the relative intensity of the light exiting on the right after passing through all of the polarizers. The dashed vertical lines represent the vertical reference. The solid lines represent either the polarization angle of the light or the transmission angle of the polarizer. CW represents clockwise and CCW represents counterclockwise as viewed from the right looking back to the left along the path of the light.
Full Intensity Partial Intensity Zero Intensity Linearly polarized light with the plane of polarization horizontal enters from the left and passes through a single polarizer with the transmission axis oriented vertically (0° relative to the vertical).
Full Intensity Partial Intensity Zero Intensity Unpolarized light enters from the left and passes through a single polarizer with the transmission axis oriented horizontally (90° relative to the vertical).
Full Intensity Partial Intensity Zero Intensity Unpolarized light enters from the left and passes through one polarizer with the transmission axis oriented 45° CCW relative to the vertical and then through a second polarizer with the transmission axis oriented 45° CCW relative to the vertical.
Full Intensity Partial Intensity Zero Intensity Linearly polarized light polarized at an angle 45° CCW from the vertical enters from the left and passes through a single polarizer with the transmission axis oriented 45° CCW relative to the vertical.
Full Intensity Partial Intensity Zero Intensity Unpolarized light enters from the left and passes through a single polarizer with the transmission axis oriented vertically (0° relative to the vertical).
Explanation / Answer
I am answering question no.1 and the first part of the question no.2...But I did not understand the rest of the questions.
1. Angle of incidence and the angle of reflection are the same.
2. (first part) . Snell's law gives
1*sin i = n*sin r, where i and r are angle of incidence and angle of refraction respectively . n = refractive index of the medium.
i= 44.1 degree and r= 27.4 degree.
so n= 1.51
