Question
The coolant in a typical car heats up to around 185 degree F during normal operation. What is this change in coolant temperature if its initial temperature was 10 degree F prior to warming up in units of: Kelvin, Celsius and Rankines? Normal Hershey Kisses are made from a mold and if you weigh a bunch of them, you will see that they weigh within about +/- 0.03 grams of each other. Hershey Kisses with Almonds, however, are a much different story. Their weight will vary over a range of +/- 0.2 grams. How can you explain this?Explanation / Answer
(a.) The initial temperature of coolant = 10o F
The final temperature of coolant = 185o F
Change in coolant temperature =185o F -10o F = 175o F
this is equivalent to = 358.15 K - 260.928 K = 97.22 K
this is equivalent to = 85o C - (-12.22)o C =97.22o c
this is equivalent to = 644.67o R - 469.67o R = 175o R
b)
Almonds have a variation in weight of +/- 0.17 grams
When c = a + b
and quantity a is measured as a +/- da and quantity b is measured as b +/- db
quantity c is c +/- (da+db)
dc = da + db
