Upon examination of the greatest threats to a computerized accounting system, suggest two (2) preventive measures or remedies that protect the system and/or mitigate any negative impacts to the system. Provide a rationale for your response.

Your boss is concerned that the company’s computerized accounting system is vulnerable to attack. After reviewing the system, you’re in agreement. Write a brief report (approximately one [1] paragraph in length) of how someone might hack into your systems and commit fraud with the accruals. What major damages to the company’s financial statements could result from such a fraud?”

Explanation / Answer

Two Preventive Measures that protect the system from any negative impacts are:
1) External storage Device - Company should make investment in buying good external storage device to backup the data in case hard disk failure, it can be stored in external hard disk, CD or cloud storage.Now days all the computers have backup function of creating replication of data.
2)Protect Computer from power failure - Computer should be supported by backup power,in case power failure operater have sufficient time to save data lost. Company should buy good quality of UPS.
3) Use copyrighted software and good computerized accounting software - Good quality software gives the protection of data security and universal format helps the company in filling income statement for tax purpose and comparision with other company in the industry.
