Question
1) ATTENTION AND PROCESSING (40 pts) Explain the concepts of bottom-up versus top-down processing. Cite examples from our lecture material that are examples of both and justify why you think they are. Also, consider the design implications of top-down vs. bottom-up processing when designing a system for human use. How do the two types of processing affect how they would influence design Give examples of how design might impact both top-down and bottom-up processing. In other words, provide an example of how design might aid top-down processing. Provide a second example of how design might aid bottom-up processingExplanation / Answer
When the stimulus is presented in short and clarity is uncertain, perception becomes a top down approach.
When the progression is from individual element to the whole,it is called as bottom up processing.
The sensory of top down processing are sight, smell, sound and touch which input into large amount of information.
Top down processing gives reference to how the brain makes use of the information which has already been carried to the brain.
A top down approach is generally a stepwise design is the breaking down of system to have an insight on the compositional subsystems in reverse engineering fashion.
In top down approach there is overview of the system but there is no detailing.
