13. A control is something that have all the conditions same except one which you are studying.

For example, you are seeing the effect of phosphate on a plant. In this case you will select two plants, both will be given all conditions same such as temperature, sunlight but one of them will be given phosphate and other will not. The later will be your control.

14. The purpose of using a control is that there is something you can compare your results to. It ensures whatever different results your test is showing owes to variable only and not to any other variables.

15. The presence of fat can be checked by - mix the sample in water, leave it for sometime and if there is fat in the sample, it will seperate into two layers, fat be the upper layer as it is denser. Also you can mix the sample in ethanol and diisolve it to get a clear solution. Then, add this sample to water and if the fat is present you will get a milky solution like result.
