Question

2. (1 point) In humans, albinism is a metabolic disorder in which affected persons fail to produce melanin. Albinism results from an autosomal recessive allele. Susie and her older sister have normal pigmentation, but their younger brother is albino. Sally's father and mother both have normal pigmentation a) Give the genotypes of Susie, her mother, her father, her sister, and her brother b) If Susie's parents have two more children, what is the probability that they will both be albino or both be normal? c) If Susie marries a man with normal pigmentation whose mother was albino, what is the probability they will have an albino child?

Explanation / Answer

Q. A. if we assign A for dominant and a for recessive then the genotype

susie = Aa OR AA

her mother = Aa because she is carrier not have disease symptom.

her father = Aa because he is also carrier but not have disease symptom

her brother = aa because he is the one who is showing the disease phenotype.

Q. B. because the parents are heterozygous so the probability of having a child with aa is 1/4.

for having both of them albino the probability 1/4*1/4= 1/16 and if we check the probability of both be normal then it will be 3/4*3/4=9/16.

Q.C. as we know susie is a carrier if his husband will be carrier then because his mother had albinism then both will be the carrier with Aa and Aa genotype.
