(unaffected); XHXh are normal but carry the allele (carriers); XhXh have hemophilia (are affected).

aii.  What is the genotype for Brad with normal blood clotting whose father had hemophilia?

bi.  Cross Angelina and Brad.  What are Angelina's possible gametes?

bii.  Cross Angelina and Brad.  What are Brad's possible gametes?

c.  What is the probability that a mating between these two individuals will produce a child, regardless of sex, that has hemophilia? (Give a percentage.)

Explanation / Answer

A. Genotype of Brad is XHY. His father is haemophilliac carrying Xh allele but X chromosome of father does not pass to the son.

Bi. If Angelina is normal ,her genotype is XHXH and Brad genotype is XHY. Gametes produced by Angelina are;

XH, XH ie all her eggs carry XH allele.

Bii . Brads possible gametes are;

XH, Y.

C. Mating between Brad and Angelina;

Brad (XHY) x Angelina (XHXH)

Gametes; XH , Y, XH XH.

Offsprings ; XHXH, XHXH, XHY XHY .
