Question
Use Figure 10-6 to help you evaluate "Mystery pedigree # l." Does this pedigree most probably repre- sent an autosomal dominant or an autosomal recessive trait for this family? (Hint: Examine the offspring from the mating of individuals 4 and 5 of generation II.) What would you predict are the genotypes of individualk 4 and 5 of generation I1? What would you predict the genotype of individual 2 in generation I to be? 9 Generation = Normal male 3 5 Tse 4 o-Normal female 1??2. Affected male Affected femaleD FIGURE 106. Mystery pedigree #1 . Use Figure 10-7 to help you evaluate "Mystery pedigree #2" If this pedigree presents an analysis of a sex-linked trait for this family, what is the predicted genotype of individual 2 in generation I? What is the predicted genotype of individual 1 in generation III? Generation = Normal male O - Normal female 2 3 Affected male O-Affected female 1ò 2 FIGURE 10-7. Mystery pedigree #2.Explanation / Answer
9. Yes the above pedigree is representing an autosomal dominant trait. Because if you are-
Now genotype of 4 and 5 of generation II are heterozygous that is both of them are Aa(where A is dominant and a- recessive).
Because if we look into there offspring there are unaffected individuals. It is not possible unless both of the parents are heterozygous for the trait.
Now genotype for 2 in I st generation is also heterozygous(Aa). Because here also unaffected individual is observed into their progeny.
Next question:
It is a X linked recessive trait.
Genotype of individual 2 in I generation is carrier for the trait that is XtX( where Xt is disease)
Individual I from III generation will also be carrier.
